Alfred Joseph Wentworth was a Wood Cutting Machinist in Salford.
He was born on 28th January 1879 at 14 Tweed Street, Salford. His father was Walter James Wentworth (born 1857 in Southwold, Suffolk) who was a Joiner/Machinist, and his mother was Jane (nee Bradford) Wentworth (born 1855 in Hook, Surrey). They were married on 26 January 1878 at Christ Church, Salford, Walter was aged 21, Joiner, of 90 Liverpool Street, Salford, and Jane was aged 23, Dressmaker, of 17 Tweed Street, Salford. Alfred was the eldest of three children. His siblings were Walter jnr (born 1881 in Salford) and Gertrude (born 1883 in Salford). In 1881, the family lived at 31 Hanover Street, Salford, and in 1891 they lived at 48 Albion Street, Salford. In 1991, the family lived at 35 White Street, Salford, where Alfred was aged 22 and a Wood Cutting Machinist like his father.
On 26th August 1905, Alfred married Sarah Jane Parkington at St Luke's Church, Weaste, Salford. Alfred was aged 27, a Joiner's Machinist, and lived at 35 White Street. Sarah Jane (born 1880 in Liverpool) was aged 27, and the daughter of James Parkington (born 1860 in Manchester) who was a Plasterer, and Fanny (nee Johnson) Parkington (born 1861 in Liverpool), of 37 Alder Street, Salford.
In 1911 Alfred and Sarah Jane lived at 30 Dawson Street, Pendleton, Salford. Alfred was aged 32 and a Joiner's Machinist, Sarah Jane was aged 30 and a Cop Reeler in a Cotton Mill, and daughter Gertude (born 11th June 1907 in Salford), was aged 4. Also in the house were Sarah Jane's parents James and Fanny Parkington. There appears to be no census return for 1921, which would have given Alfred's place of employment, and shown if they had more children. Also no 1939 Register available. However, a family history source shows they had a son, Alfred James (born 1st December 1912 in Pendleton)
Sarah Jane's mother, Fanny Parkington died in November 1911 age 50, and was buried at Weaste Cemetery on 29th November. Sarah Jane's father James Parkington died in January 1915 aged 54 and was re-united with his wife on 14th January.
On 5th August 1929 Alfred's daughter Gertrude Wentworth married Harry Tonge at All Soul's RC Church, Bute Street, Weaste, Salford. And on 30th August 1941, Alfred's son Alfred James Wentworth married Kathleen Robinson at St Luke's Church, Weaste, Salford.
On 14th November 1945, Alfred Joseph Wentworth died of perforation of the colon, peritonitis and carcinoma of the bladder at Hope Hospital, aged 67. He was buried in the Parkington family grave, H/DISS/546 at Weaste Cemetery on 20th November.
Two years later, on 22 November 1947, Alfred's widow Sarah Jane Wentworth died of Cardiac failure, Basal Pneumonia and advanced carcinoma of the cervix, at Hope Hospital, Pendleton, aged 67. She was re-united with Alfred in the family grave at Weaste Cemetery on 27th November.
