Weaste Cemetery

Primary School Children at Armistice events.

The annual Armistice event for school Children at Weaste Cemetery is called the "Poppy Run." This is because the children place poppy crosses on the graves of Service men and women, who they have researched at school, and who have died during wrtime. This is both the Commonwealth War Grave Commission memorials for people who have actually died in UK, and also on family graves where there names have been inscribed, as they have died on the Battlefield. This year the event took place on four mornings for 4 different schools/classes.  Co-ordinated by Graham Ramsden, the childen asseble at the War Memorial just before 11 am for the customary one minute's silence.
