Weaste Cemetery

Norwegian Merchant Seaman remembered at Weaste Cemetery.

Anton Berntsen, Chief Engineer of the S S Breidablik drowned in Salford Docks on 23rd December 1922 and was buried at Weaste Cemetery. Today, on the centenary of his death, the Friends of Salford Cemeteries Trust, remembered this seafairer who was many miles from home and may not have had a visitor in the last 100 years. A Norwegian flag was draped over his grave and a wreath placed thereon. Pete Kilvert gave a brief account about Anton and read three verses from the poem "A Norwegian Seaman's Song."

(As a follow up we received a very nice thank you from the Norwegian Embassy in London).
