Abdol Barrick (Killed at Work) (1853 - 1923)
Abdol Barrick was a 70 year old, Merchant Seaman on the SS Malahaud which was berthed in Salford Docks, when he was discovered dead on board.
He was a merchant seaman from Calcutta, commonly called a Lascar. He was found dead on Saturday morning 29th April 1933 on the floor of the toilets. When his fellow seamen were interviewed it was clear that he had not complained of any illness or injury.
An Inquest was held by Deputy Coroner, Mr Flint in Pendleton Town Hall, on Tuesday 1st May. Dr Ghosh of Seedley Terrace, Pendleton, had made a post mortem examination and stated that he discovered two day's pneumonia in the deceased's lungs. A finding of "Death from natural causes" was returned.
Abdol Barrick was buried in a common grave in the Church of England portion of Weaste Cemetery on 1st May 1923. There was no ceremony.
