He also served as Private 7527 William Craig in the Border Regiment with whom he spent 8 years in Egypt. He a reservist called up in October 1914 as part of the 1st Expenditionary Force. He attended Salford's Central Hall Mission and prior to the war worked for the Lancashire & Yorkshire Railwa. His brother Private 35919 Andrew Craig of the Cameroon Highlands was killed in active service on 10th May 1915.
